Inmates + The need for Protection

= Prison Gangs

A prison gang is defined as a criminal organization that originated within the penal system. They are also self-perpetuating criminal entities that can continue their operation outside the confines of the penal system.* Many gangs have formed and continue to form in correctional facilities nationwide. Efforts to contain these gangs are also expanding, but law enforcement officers are finding it hard to keep up with the ever-changing, increasingly violent gangs.
